Back in 2016, we were still working out of a borrowed trailer, chasing calls across Comal County with a magnetic sign slapped on the side. One Tuesday morning in March, we got a call from a woman in the Gruene Historic District. Her garage door had been hanging crooked for three weeks. Two other companies had come out, quoted her prices that kept changing, and neither one had fixed the actual problem. She was paying for parking on the street because she couldn’t get her car inside.
We showed up, found a cracked drum and a cable that had been installed backward, and had it running smooth in under two hours. She paid what we’d quoted on the phone, no surprises. Then she asked why it had been so hard to find someone who would just do the job right and charge a fair price. That question sat with us. New Braunfels was growing fast, and the garage door trade was filling up with companies that treated every house like a number. Carl Dutton didn’t stumble into garage door work. He was pulled into it by the mechanics of the thing itself. He trained under a journeyman out of San Antonio who taught him to measure twice, to never blame the door for a bad install, and to leave every jobsite cleaner than he found it. His certifications include standard industry credentials required for torsion spring and opener installation work in Texas.
What separates Carl from a corporate franchise technician is simple: he’s the one who answers for the work. He still carries tools on his truck, still climbs ladders, still checks every door his team installs. Outside of work, he’s usually on the Guadalupe with a fly rod or in his garage rebuilding a 1974 Honda CB750. That patience - the willingness to do a thing properly even when it takes longer - is what he brings to your driveway.
