We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at six on a Saturday morning, or when you’re staring at a new door frame in Canyon Lake wondering if it’ll actually fit. Every one of us lives here in the New Braunfels area, and we all came up through the same training: fix it right, say what it’ll cost before you start, and stand behind it after. No exceptions.

Carl Dutton, Owner
I’ve been turning wrenches on garage doors since 1984, when I started Mainspring out of a rented bay off San Antonio Street with one used truck and a box of springs I bought at auction. Forty-two years later, I’m still answering the phone myself some nights, still crawling under doors when a job gets tricky, still writing the 90-Day Done Right Promise on every invoice by hand. I named this company for the mainspring, the coil that carries the full weight of a door, because that’s the part nobody thinks about until it fails. I’ve seen every brand that ever shipped to Texas, and I’ve trained every tech on this crew personally. Off the clock, you’ll find me on the Guadalupe with a fly rod and a stubborn refusal to use anything but a bamboo rod I built myself.
Mike R., Lead Technician
Mike joined us in 2011 after eight years running his own handyman operation in Seguin, where he got tired of turning down garage door calls he didn’t have the parts to finish. He’s factory-certified on LiftMaster, Genie, and Chamberlain openers, and he’s the guy we send when a smart opener is fighting the homeowner’s Wi-Fi mesh in a new build near Fischer. Mike can read a torsion spring’s cycle count by the sound it makes when it winds down, and he’s replaced more broken springs in New Braunfels neighborhoods than he can count. He keeps a coffee thermos that hasn’t been empty since 2015 and a running bet with Carl about whether anyone will ever stump him with a brand he’s never touched.
Dolores V., Senior Installer
Dolores came to us from a commercial door outfit in San Antonio, where she spent six years hanging 24-foot steel roll-ups for warehouse bays. She switched to residential because she likes talking to homeowners and seeing a finished door that actually looks good against a house, not just functional behind a loading dock. She’s our Clopay and Amarr specialist, and she’s measured and hung doors in every style from carriage-house composite in Gruene to full-view aluminum in the Hill Country. Dolores is the one who catches framing issues before they become problems, and she’s trained three of our apprentices on proper track alignment. She rebuilds vintage motorcycles in her garage, which explains why she’s never surprised by a seized bolt.
James T., Service Coordinator
James is the live voice you get when you call (830) 689-6216 at midnight on a Sunday because your door is stuck open and rain is coming. He’s been with us since 2019, and before that he dispatching for a plumbing outfit in Schertz, so he knows how to calm a stressed homeowner and figure out what actually needs to happen next. James keeps the trucks stocked, the routes tight, and the parts inventory honest, which is why our techs usually finish in one visit instead of two. He knows every zip code we cover by heart, and he’s the reason we can promise a real person answers every call, every hour. He raises heritage chickens in Garden Ridge and will talk your ear off about Rhode Island Reds if you let him.
Elena K., Apprentice Technician
Elena started with us in 2023 after completing the industrial maintenance program at Central Texas Technology Center. She’s working her way through journeyman certification under Mike’s supervision, and she’s already handled solo spring replacements on standard steel doors in neighborhoods from Oak Run to River Chase. Elena’s specialty is opener diagnostics, she’s quick with a multimeter, and she’s the one who figured out why a particular batch of Craftsman openers was failing after power surges in the area. She asks more questions than anyone on the crew, which is exactly what you want in someone who’ll be running her own truck soon. She commutes from Canyon Lake and knows every back road that saves ten minutes during rush hour.

Whether Mike’s swapping a broken cable in a 1980s ranch in New Braunfels, Dolores is hanging a full-view door on a new build near Lake McQueeney, or Elena’s tracing a short in an opener circuit, the standard doesn’t change. We show up in uniform, background-checked, with the parts already on the truck. We look at the job, name a flat price, and get your okay before we touch a tool.
